Description:
Melcut Step Square Drills are essentially two-flute step drills with straight flutes. The name of the tool is derived from its unique cross section feature when the tool is viewed from the drill point end.

Applications:
Melcut Step Square Drills are custom built and designed to withstand difficult hole making operations. They are particularly effective in applications where the drill is subject to deflection or when hole alignment or size is a problem. The tool is exceptionally good for combined drill/drill or drill chamfering holes in aluminium or cast iron. The four margin lands on each diameter are diametrically placed around the periphery of the drill body and provide superior support both in the drill bushing (if used) and in the hole as it's being drilled. Exceptionally good hole size and finish can be obtained. In many applications secondary operations such as core drilling, reaming or burnishing can be eliminated. Another benefit obtained with four lands, is that drill point wander is significantly reduced providing superior tool life. Custom-built Square Drills are very cost effective when conditions exist that requires features not available on standard drills. For example: long lengths, intermediate diameters.
